Pupils in P3 Red, P4 Purple, and P4 Red celebrated National Poetry Day (held on the first Thursday of October) by exploring poetry in their English lessons.
The theme for 2022’s National Poetry Day was Environment. To inspire pupils, they were each given an animal mentioned by the Ealing Wildlife Trust to base their poem. Some of these animals included the great crested newt, barn owl, kingfisher and water vole.
Pupils first completed research to better understand their animal by identifying features such as its habitat, diet and lifestyle. Using the information found, students created their poems.
The beauty of poetry is that it can be expressed without limits. Some poems rhymed while others were more free-verse.
I hope you’ll agree with me that the pupils all worked hard to create unique and memorable written pieces of art.
