On 5 July 2021, the JCS community took a moment to celebrate the lives of two former JCS pupils who sadly passed away this past year. The celebration took place in the ARA Fields.
We gathered together to share our thoughts and memories, and to honour their time and lives spent at John Chilton School. People were able to write messages, prayers and wishes on biodegradable seed paper that we placed onto trees.
It was also an opportunity to commemorate our JCS Memorial Area up in the fields. We planted two fruit trees, an apple and plum tree, and placed a plaque with a quote from A.A. Milne:
“If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together, there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you.”
Many thanks to our resident outdoor and gardening expert, Lisa Moor, who helped to design and create the memorial space. Thanks also to Lily and the Phase 5 team, who laid out memorial rocks that pupils and staff painted in a lovely labyrinth pattern.
The JCS Memorial Area is a space that will be available for our school community to take time to reflect.
