Since the relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions, John Chilton School (JCS) is looking forward to taking part in Sports day this summer again. We are sure that everyone is excited at the prospect of enjoying this fun-packed activities event. This is the time when we get together to motivate, cheer and encourage our children to show their best in sports.
We obviously needed to do some preparations and following the success we had with the workshops delivered by ‘Street Style Surgery’, we have enlisted their help again for this coming event. On the Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th of May ‘Street Style Surgery’ came to JCS to deliver a workshop based on ‘Textiles’ in Design and Technology. Our pupils have thus designed and created flags for their house teams that they will represent on the day.
We wanted to share those moments as a whole school. Our pupils from Early Years to Sixth form worked with recycled fabrics, yarns, threads and other materials to incorporate, tie dying, weaving, knitting, crochet and textile art to their flags. After they had been introduced to many different techniques and materials, they were involved in a wide variety of tasks using diverse equipment to achieve the desired effect.
The pupils enjoyed making flags and banners that represent JCS’s motto of ‘Confident’, ‘Independent’ and ‘Motivated’. Each flag has been carefully designed and created solely by them as they picked the sports personality or celebrity that they felt represents each of our goals. They have thus decorated beautiful artwork that has meanings to them.
The pupils and staff are proudly looking forward to showing those inspiring flags and banner in the summer and to mostly show that despite their disability, our children know no limits when it comes to creativity!
We hope you will all appreciate their hard work and dedication
