The paediatric occupational therapists aim to provide assessment, treatment and advice on an individual or group basis in the following areas :-

Special seating and positioning systems.

Basic play and learning skills e.g. attention, turn taking, advice on suitable toys etc.

Sensory motor and perceptual functions which affect learning.

Functions related to body
control and effective use of the hands, including handwriting.

The ability to integrate different sensory information, needed for motor
co-ordination, learning and organisation of behaviour.

Self-care training and provision of aids or their adaptation for increased
independence in the activities of daily living.
Switches and controls for computers and other electronic equipment.

Splinting to improve movement and the use of hands and arms.
Advice on the adaptation of home/school buildings e.g. ramps for wheelchair access.

Our Occupational Therapists carry out home visits to advise parents/carers on treatment and provide written home programmes. They look for ways to incorporate therapy aims within the classroom and liaise with other professionals involved such as doctors and physiotherapists. They also liaise with social services in providing suitable equipment for individual children at home.
