Clubs and Extended Schools

Lunchtime club provision at John Chilton School is part of the extended schools provision offered. This gives the pupils opportunities to access a varied menu of activities for study, support and enrichment (including sport and music); these activities are outside of the National Curriculum and enable pupils to enjoy and achieve in a range of activities they may not be able to access outside school. The clubs actively promote the school’s vision by enabling the pupils to participate in high quality study or enrichment activities in a social situation that, due to the challenges of transport and access, our families find difficult to accomplish from home. The aim is to allow our pupils the same equality of access to provision that mainstream pupils enjoy.

Pupils will have the opportunity to participate in safe and stimulating activities that promote key skills and thinking skills in a purposeful social situation. Positive behaviour is encouraged through these structured and purposeful sessions where pupils develop skills and interest. It is important that the pupils of John Chilton School have the chance to explore different interests in a supportive environment, in order to make choices about their future placements and leisure activities; linking closely with transition to adulthood and ownership of benefits. Community cohesion will be encouraged by allowing pupils to invite peers and friends from The Alec Reed Academy to attend a club with them.

There is Key Stage 2 club that runs for one afternoon a week. Pupils are invited to attend on a rota basis.
